Icelandic salmon farmer Arctic Fish harvested 1,000 metric tons (MT) of gutted-weight fish in the second quarter of 2022, its latest trading update confirmed. Compared to Q2 2021, that volume is down by 824 MT.

Norway Royal Salmon (NRS) owns a 50 percent share of Arctic Fish, which has licenses to farm  27,100 MT of salmon and trout in Iceland's Westfjords. Of its total license volume, 5,300 MT is for trout and is not currently being utilized. The company is pushing to convert these licenses to salmon licenses in an ongoing application process.

In addition to the active licenses in four fjords, it has applications that are being finalized for farming in an additional fjord that could take its total production volume up to 31,900 MT in the coming years.

Within the Q1 2022, the company harvested 4,221 MT of salmon, which was an 11 percent increase compared to the corresponding period of 2021. It also recently announced it is upping its smolt production.

In June 2022, Síldarvinnslan reached an agreement to purchase more than 34 percent of Arctic Fish Holding AS from Bremesco Holding Ltd., Icelandic Farming Holding, NOVO, and Neil Shiran Thorisson.

Arctic Fish’s full Q2 2022 report will be released on 31 August.
