Blue Aqua, SAS, Hewlett Packard partner to develop app for aquaculture production in Asia

Singapore-based aquaculture consultancy and vannamei shrimp farmer Blue Aqua International has partnered with U.S. software company SAS and technology firm Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) to develop a new technology suite for the aquaculture sector.

The artificial intelligence-driven tool, which it's calling Smart Aquaculture Solution, will help boost aquaculture production in Asia, including Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, and India, Blue Aqua said in a statement.

The system will include a mobile app that will provide farmers with critical information for their aquaculture work, such as water quality, feed management, and animal health, using real-time data-analytics technology.

Blue Aqua said the solution is designed for farmers in Asia, as it will take into account various factors affecting farming activities in the region such as farming infrastructure, weather, and disease risks.

The app, which will be available for download by August this year, will inform farmers of any potential issues affecting their production and provide applicable remedies to resolve them. Users can also opt in to updates regarding the quality of their farms, thanks to analytical insights provided through continuous collection of data.

“The solution will help in monitoring the culture environment and provide the insights that will support our productivity and yield goals for our smart aquaculture farms. With our extensive network and expertise, we are also able to bring this solution to the aquaculture sector to the Asia region,” Blue Aqua Group President CEO and Founder Farshad Shishehchian said. “Partnering with a leading technology innovator like SAS to help the local fish and shrimp farming industry get smart is a great move forward. With food security a key priority, analytics can help in providing the critical insights that bring us to the next level in sustainable and efficient farm production to meet local demand.”

According to HPE Singapore Managing Director Kong Hoe Chan, the platform that the three partners provide will help farmers “boost product quality, drive efficiency, lower costs, and increase capacity, while maintaining a commitment to sustainable high-quality farming.”

In April 2021, Blue Aqua launched the Doctor Shrimp Academy and Clinic to support the shrimp industry globally.
