Mowi Canada East has appointed Alan Cook as its new managing director, the company announced this week.
In the role, Cook will be in charge of Mowi’s operations in Atlantic Canada. Cook’s history with Mowi and salmon farming dates back to 1998, when he was hired by the firm as a farm technician. His career thereafter involved Cook taking on leadership roles within the salmon farming and fisheries industries in Canada, Chile, the United States, and most recently New Zealand, where he acted as COO of New Zealand King Salmon.
“I am delighted to have Alan on board. He is a very experienced farmer and I look forward to working with him,” Mowi CEO Ivan Vindheim said in a press release.
Cook takes over for Jamie Gaskill, who recently turned in his resignation to Mowi. Gaskill said he decided to step down “so that he can spend more time with his young family while focusing on specific projects in the salmon farming and seafood industry.”
Gaskill spent 18 years of his salmon aquaculture career, which spans more than three decades, serving Mowi in various locations throughout the world, including as a production director – seawater and freshwater – for Mowi Canada West, as regional director of Mowi’s Region South in Norway, and most recently as managing director of Mowi Canada East, “which involved leading the establishment of that new business unit,” Mowi said.
“Mowi thanks Jamie for his contribution to the company, and we wish him well in his future endeavours,” the company added.
