Angulas Aguinaga nets Italian seafood supplier Deligusti

Irura, Gipuzkoa, Spain-based multinational food company Angulas Aguinaga has acquired the Italian company Deligusti as part of its ongoing international expansion plan, through which it intends to double its turnover to EUR 450 million (USD 526.3 million) by the end of 2025.

Aligned with Angulas Aguinaga’s 2020-2025 Strategic Plan, the acquisition of Deligusti extends its fish products offering, which already includes the brands La Gula del Norte, Krissia, Aguinamar, Royal, and Riunione.

At the end of 2019, we started our roadmap for internationalization in the Italian market with the purchase of the Riunione company. With the incorporation of Deligusti, we are taking a qualitative leap, consolidating our position in Italy with a large portfolio of products and a presence in the main distributors,” Angulas Aguinaga CEO Ignacio Muñoz said.

Founded 25 years ago and headquartered in Milan, Italy, Deligusti currently offers two different product categories: marinated fish – including anchovies, sardines, octopus, shrimp, and other shellfish – and local products such as peppers stuffed with spicy tuna, semi-dried cherry tomatoes, and artichokes. Eighty-five percent of the brand’s sales are in the Italian market.

“Angulas Aguinaga's experience in the fish category, the know-how in the value chain, and brand-building will help Deligusti continue to grow and thus continue to be leaders in the categories in which we work,” Deligusti CEO Umberto Spreafico said.

Angulas Aguinaga has also been extending its offering beyond the fish category. It recently entered the egg product sector with the acquisition of the European patent for frozen and refrigerated fried eggs, saying the move would reinforce its foodservice business segment.

Last year, it acquired the company Copesco & Sefrisa, a leader in salmon and cod products and owner of the brands Royal and Summumm.

Towards the end of 2020, Angulas Aguinaga was purchased by European private equity firm PAI Partners.
