Ocean Choice forms new European company, hires former Iceland Seafood International CEO

St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada-headquartered Ocean Choice International (OCI) has expanded its European operations with a newly formed company and the addition of former Iceland Seafood International CEO Helgi Anton Eiríksson.

“We are pleased to announce the appointment of Helgi Anton Eiríksson to the management board of Ocean Choice International Europe – a newly-formed subsidiary of Ocean Choice International Canada,” Ocean Choice CEO Martin Sullivan said. “Helgi brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience of the global seafood industry that will complement our established sales team in Europe.”

In his new role, Eiríksson will work closely with Ocean Choice’s European sales team to implement and deliver multiple projects, including expanding its customer base.

Along with Eiríksson, the seafood harvesting, processing, and marketing company’s management board for Europe is comprised of senior staff and its two owners: managing director Rens Elderkamp, product management vice president Dale Oldford, president Blaine Sullivan, and Martin Sullivan.

The move follows the appointment of Elderkamp as the managing director of Ocean Choice’s European operations in September 2020, as well as the addition of new groundfish vessel, MV Calvert, to the company's offshore fishing fleet.

“Over the last several years, we have seen an increase in demand for our wild-caught seafood in Europe,” Sullivan said. “To support this growing demand and to better serve our customers we are continuing to grow our sales efforts to meet the needs of our existing customers while also increasing our efforts to drive market expansion. As we expand, we remain committed to delivering quality, year-round seafood to our customers.”

With sales offices in the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Italy, Ocean Choice sells a range of products – including cooked and peeled shrimp, frozen-at-sea shrimp, scallops, and a variety of groundfish species – to customers in 17 European countries.
