US April shrimp imports up from a year ago, but lower compared to March

The United States imported 66,600 metric tons (MT) of shrimp in April 2022.

The total was up from the 60,898 MT of shrimp the U.S. imported in April 2021, but down from the 76,421 MT it imported in March 2022.

India, Indonesia, and Ecuador held their places as the top exporters of shrimp to United States, together exporting a total of 52,310 MT in the month.

India maintained the top position as number-one exporter, sending a total of 19,991 MT of shrimp to the U.S., surpassing its total from April 2021 of 18,585 MT. Indonesia exported 17,019 MT, which surpassed its prior annual total from April 2021 of 16,156 MT.

Vietnam exported 5,878 MT to the U.S., an increase up from the 3,574 MT it exported in April 2021. Thailand exported 2,879 MT of shrimp in April 2022, up from 2,088 MT exported in April of 2021. Mexico exported 2,008 MT of shrimp to the U.S., up from the 1,951 MT the country sent to the U.S. in April 2021. 

Concluding the list of top 10 shrimp-supplying nations to the U.S. in April 2022 were Argentina at 1,773 MT, Peru with 448 MT, China 251 MT, and Bangladesh at 199 MT.
