China has slapped bans on three foreign seafood firms on the grounds of preventing transmission of COVID-19.

South Korean firm Asia Cold Storage Co., CV Sinar Tirta from Indonesia, and Vietnamese firm BH Co. have had their licenses to import into China suspended for violating Food and Agriculture Organization guidance on COVID prevention, according to China’s Administration of Customs authority.

In mid-August, China banned South Korea-based firm Dai Han Fisheries Co., Indonesian firm PT. Rembang Sportindo Mandiri, and Vietnamese processing firm An Thinh Trung Seafood Joint Stock Co. from exporting to China for an undisclosed period of time for violations of its COVID customs protocols.

China has been handing down the bans following video examinations of the exporting facilities, which found them in contravention of an FAO guidance document published in August 2021 that offering guidance on preventing COVID from becoming a risk to workers in the food processing sector and in the food cold chain. That FAO document confirms COVID provides no food safety risk to consumers.
