Florida-produced seafood dips recalled over undeclared allergens

Lorida, Florida-based Rusty’s Seafood Market is recalling several seafood dips due to undeclared allergens.

Rusty’s Seafood is recalling all five of its Captain Rusty’s Seafood Dips due to the presence of undeclared allergens, including fish, crustacean shellfish (crab, lobster, shrimp), wheat, eggs, soy, and milk. Consumers allergic to those ingredients “run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” Rusty’s Seafood Market said in a press release.

The recalled dips were distributed through both retail markets and distributors in South Florida, along with Sarasota, Tampa, and Lorida, Florida.

The recalled dips include Smoked Salmon Dip, Smoked Mahi Dip, Lobster Dip, Cajun Crab and Lobster Dip, and Blue Crab Dip.

The recall was initiated after the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) determined, during routine inspection, that the product containing allergens was distributed in packaging that did not identify the presence of fish (mahi, salmon, whiting, pollock, threadfin bream), crustacean shellfish (crab, lobster, shrimp), wheat, eggs, soy or milk, Rusty’s said.

“Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by a breakdown in the company’s labeling process,” the company said.
