Herring product recalled over potential listeria contamination

B&I Overseas Trading is recalling herring because it has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

Van Nuys, California-based B&I said it is recalling frozen “Veladis herring in oil with Italian spices.”

However, all of the affected package – sold at select International retail stores in Washington state – have been removed from sale, according to a company press release.

“The company has removed the affected lots from distribution as the FDA [United States Food and Drug Administration] and the company continue to investigate the source of the problem,” B&I said.

There were around 400 units sold in November and December 2020.

The product is sold in a 17.64 ounce (500 gram) plastic package and has an expiration date of 8 August,2021.

Consumers are advised to return the affected product to the place of purchase for a full refund.
