A recall of Canadian oysters due to a norovirus outbreak widened on 31 March, 2022.
Daily Fresh Shellfish Inc. is recalling several of its branded oyster products, 11 days after possible norovirus contamination was first reported in some Canadian oysters by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
Daily Shellfish’s oysters, sold under the Daily Shellfish brand, were distributed in British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec, and online, “and may have been distributed in other provinces and territories,” the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said in a press release.
On 20 March, Bowser, British Columbia, Canada-based Stellar Bay Shellfish recalled some of its oysters, after the CFIA investigated a norovirus illness outbreak. And Vancouver, British Columbia-based Pacific Rim Shellfish has recalled oysters nationwide due to possible norovirus contamination.
“There have been reported illnesses associated with the consumption of these products,” CFIA said, without providing additional details.
In addition, Taylor Shellfish Canada ULC, doing business as Fanny Bay Oysters, is recalling certain Taylor Shellfish Canada ULC brand oysters from the marketplace due to possible norovirus contamination.
The recalled oysters, under the brand names Fanny Bay, Royal Miyagi, and Sunseeker, have been sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec and may have been distributed in other provinces and territories, CIFA said in a press release.
Pacific Rim’s recalled oysters, sold under the brand Pacific Rim Shellfish (2003) Corp., have been sold in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon, and Ontario and may have been distributed in other provinces and territories, CFIA said.
The oysters, harvested between 9 March and 19 March, were distributed to restaurants and institutions.
CFIA said it is in the midst of a food-safety investigation that may lead to the recall of other products.
