Guangdong Evergreen Group has introduced two of its products to the U.S. market as it seeks to tap demand for ready-made Chinese meals in North America.
Evergreen is one of several Guangdong-based Chinese seafood aquaculture and processing firms presenting their wares at the 2022 North America Deep-Frozen Foods Summit event jointly organised by the China America Food Alliance and the U.S.-based Jack & Kings brand, which goes by Jack Brothers in Mandarin.
Staged in the U.S. cities of Atlanta, Los Angeles, and New York throughout the month of February, the event – also titled the Jack & King Ready Meals Easy to Cook Tasting Event – features dishes from China in pre-cooked formats. Keynote speakers at the event included U.S.-China Restaurant Alliance President and Lao Sze Chuan Chinese Cuisine Co. CEO Tony Hu, Juicy Crab Co. CEO Raymond Chen, and China Buffet CEO Billy Xiao.
Two of the ready-to-eat Evergreen products showing on the U.S. tour are Squirrel Bream and Kung Fu Sea Bass, two traditional favorites from the Canton region, which incorporates Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau.
Maria Hua, director of the international trade desk at the Evergreen Group, told SeafoodSource that the company aims to develop a range of pre-made dishes for the U.S. market based around its fish fillet, dim sum, and surimi products.
The Jack & Kings brand is operated by Galaxy Global International Inc., based in Norcross, Georgia, U.S.A. The firm has been involved for some time in importing Asia-sourced crustaceans into the U.S.
While Jack & Kings has long supplied the ethnic Chinese market in the U.S., the firm appears to be looking at a broader market, as its consumer facing range includes Spicy Lousiana Wholeboiled Crawfish, which sells for USD 12.99 (EUR 11.43) per 907-gram packet; and Spicy Cajun Louisiana Crawfish, which also sells for USD 12.99.
