Emeryville, California, U.S.A.-based cell-cultured seafood developer Finless Foods has launched its first product, plant-based pokè-style tuna.
The company debuted its product, made from nine plant-based ingredients that collectively mimic the taste and texture of tuna, at the National Restaurant Association show that took place 21 to 24 in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. The product is now available through broadline food-distribution company Gordon Food Service.
"The newest revolution in the plant-based market is here and it's pokè-style plant-based tuna by Finless Foods," Finless Foods Co-Founder and CEO Michael Selden said. "We know through previous experience, the best way to introduce Finless to the market is by letting the greatness of our product and mission speak for itself.”
Finless Foods closed on a USD 34 million (EUR 30.9 million) Series B fundraising round in March 2022 and is exploring the potential for international distribution to Asia and a possible expansion of its plant-based seafood portfolio. It is also developing cell-cultured seafood products, with an initial focus on producing a product “comparable to raw sushi grade tuna, [featuring] all of the delicious traits of wild-caught tuna.”
