Danish company receives “giant” order from Russian Fishery Company for new equipment

Aalborg, Denmark-based seafood processing equipment manufacturer Carsoe announced it has received a “giant” new order from the Russian Fishery Company (RFC) to fit another four ships with its advanced processing plants, adding to the seven the company ordered previously.

According to Carsoe, the plants are being purchased at a price of nearly DKK 500 million (USD 76 million, EUR 67 million), adding to the DKK 800 million (USD 122.7 million, EUR 107.4 million) of equipment previously ordered by RFC.

"The order for four more plants is a clear sign of RFC's huge ambitions in the fast-growing market," Carsoe CEO Hugo Dissing said in a release. "Carsoe is now by far the largest supplier of value-adding floating plants, and the new agreement will fuel our growth well into 2025. We have worked on this in close cooperation with our branch in Seattle and succeeded because of our proven, best-of-breed technology, which places us well ahead of our competitors.

The new plants will be installed in RFC's 11 super-trawlers, each of which are 108 meters long and 21 meters wide. Each plant will have processing, packaging, and freezing facilities. When fully operational, a 150-man crew will be able to catch up to 60,000 metric tons (MT) of fish annually.

RFC is building the new vessels as a part of Russia’s investment quota program, launched in 2016. The program gives additional pollock quota to companies that build new fishing vessels inside Russia. RFC has already taken delivery of several of its supertrawlers, with more being built or planned.

In October, Carsoe acquired Intech, a Denmark-based packaging and processing equipment specialist, with a goal of growing the company’s development, manufacturing, marketing, distribution, and servicing of machinery for handling, processing, freezing, and packing of seafood.
