Lerøy Seafood Group (LSG) harvested 42,100 metric tons (MT) of gutted weight farmed salmon and trout in the opening quarter of this year, representing a year-on-year increase of 2,700 MT.
According to the Norwegian fish farming and fishing company’s latest trading update, the volume produced at the Lerøy Aurora sites in Q1 2021 rose by 500 MT to 9,000 MT. At the same time, Lerøy Midt’s harvest increased by 2,000 MT to 16,500 MT, and Lerøy Sjøtroll production was up 400 MT to 16,700 MT.
Some 4,200 MT of the total harvest volume in the three-month period was trout, down from 6,400 MT in Q1 2020.
As reported in LSG’s fourth-quarter 2020 report, the production for Lerøy Aurora at the start of 2021 was impacted by more winter ulcers than normal. This has had a negative impact on price achievement and costs in the first quarter of 2021, the new trading statement confirmed.
Meanwhile, in LSG’s wild-catch segment, Havfisk's total catch volume in the last quarter was 25,700 MT, representing an increase of 700 MT compared with Q1 2020. This total included 11,100 MT of cod, which was 1,400 MT less than a year previously.
LSG’s full first-quarter 2021 results will be published on 20 May.
Last year, the group harvested a total 170,800 MT of salmonids, with Lerøy Aurora producing 35,000 MT, Lerøy Midt 67,900 MT, and Lerøy Sjøtroll 68,000 MT. The company's estimated salmon and trout harvest volume for 2021, including the share from associates, is currently 205,000 to 210,000 MT.
Havfisk's 2020 wild catch amounted to 68,400 MT, including a cod catch of 23,600 MT.
For the full-year 2020, the group’s revenue reached almost NOK 20 billion (USD 2.4 billion, EUR 2 billion), while its operating profit was under NOK 1.9 billion (USD 224 million, EUR 188.6 million).
