Taunton, Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based packaging company Harpak-ULMA has introduced a new packaging machine to the market, which features horizontal flow wrap technology and can produce 150 packs per minute, according to the company.
The FM400 is designed to be used in high-speed Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) environments, extending product freshness and shelf life by ensuring airtight packaging integrity.
"The machine is focused on addressing real-world challenges faced by fresh food producers, such as maintaining high sanitation standards without compromising speed or flexibility," Harpak-ULMA Product Manager Hugh Crouch said. "Its combination of advanced, high-speed sealing technologies, compatibility with a range of packaging films, improved sanitation, and connectivity along with a modular design makes for a very compelling solution."
MAP packaging is widely used in the seafood industry to extend the shelf life of fresh fish. The process, also known as gas flushing, preserves freshness by trapping a gas or mix of gases within protective packaging material around the product.
According to a company release about the machine, the FM400 is distinguished from other packaging solutions by its “Long-Dwell sealing head, featuring an advanced orbital movement mechanism that delivers impeccable hermetic seals at exceptional speeds."
"Engineered for strict sanitation standards, the FM400 boasts a stainless-steel body and vertical plate construction, allowing for rigorous cleaning with hot water and chemicals,” the firm said.
The electronic components on the FM400’s exterior are rated IP566 or higher, meaning that they are protected from water and dust. The machine’s modular design is versatile and meant to adapt to the needs of various fresh food producers. Its intuitive user interface is operated via touchscreen, and it can be modified to include consumption analysis tools that provide valuable insights.
