Multiple sources are reporting that the average price of whole, fresh salmon from Norway has fallen again in Week 24, with prices trending lower this year than last year, overall.

The SeafoodSource Pricing Portal, which aggregates trade and physical market data to produce global and national export price averages for Atlantic salmon from Norway, put average prices for whole, fresh Atlantic salmon from Norway at the start of Week 25 at NOK 70.72 (USD 7.44, EUR 6.43) per kilogram, down NOK 1.99 (USD 0.21, EUR 0.18) from the 7 June average of NOK 72.71 (USD 7.64, EUR 6.61) per kilogram. As the images below from the Pricing Portal show, prices for the category have dropped steadily since early May.

The Sitagri Salmon Index, which sets a weekly benchmark based on the FCA Oslo sale prices of several major Norwegian producers for fresh, whole HOG salmon, also saw price drops in Week 24, putting the average for all fish sizes at NOK 66.26 (USD 6.97, EUR 6.02) per kilogram, down NOK 2.11 (USD 0.22, EUR 0.19), or 3.1 percent, week over week (WoW) and NOK 27.61 (USD 2.90, EUR 2.51), or 29.4 percent, over the last three months.

The Week 24 price on 15 June of last year was NOK 82.80 (USD 8.71, EUR 7.53) per kilogram, which is NOK 12.08 (USD 1.27, EUR 1.10) higher than this year's corresponding rate, and average prices in the category, according to the SeafoodSource Pricing Portal, did not drop to NOK 67 (USD 7.04, EUR 6.09) until mid-July last year.

This year, they have hit that rate in June, suggesting an even lower seasonal trough may be in store next month.

Even lower prices for Norwegian salmon are expected by mid-summer as volumes generally increase during this period.

Sasonal dips in price have occurred much earlier in the season than they did in 2025, and Norwegian Seafood Council CEO Christian Chramer has attributed the general 2026 seafood value declines to a combination of factors, including ongoing trade barriers and global conflict, as well as a stronger krone.

Export volumes for Week 24, according to Sitagri, were up 184 MT, a 1 percent WoW increase, and up 4,088 MT from Week 24 of 2025, marking a 22 percent increase.

The most updated forward prices, issued by Fish Pool, dropped significantly this week, suggesting that traders expect weaker prices to persist for the foreseeable future. As the visualization below shows, the entire curve shifted downward, with the biggest changes seen between August and November of 2026. Forward prices for July dropped by EUR 150 (USD 174, NOK 1,650) per metric ton (MT) this week, and prices for August through November all dropped by EUR 200 (USD 231, NOK 2,200) per MT, after which the price difference narrowed again.
