Deal puts more Maine lobster in Latin America

Atwood Lobster Co., one of Maine’s largest lobster suppliers, has inked an exclusive supply agreement with Maine Lobster S.A., a Panama-based company established by Maine residents Jack Mosher and John Brier, to export Maine lobster to the Latin America.

A recent trade agreement between the United States and Latin American countries led to the removal of tariffs that had previously restricted Maine lobster from entering Latin American market.

Maine Lobster is currently establishing customer relationships in Latin America and plans to begin importing Maine lobster products into the region in the third quarter of 2012.

“As Maine residents, we are excited to work with Atwood Lobster Co. and the dtate of Maine to generate international interest in Maine products. Bringing Maine lobster into Panama and the Latin American region is something we are pleased to have the opportunity to do,” said Mosher and Brier in a press release on Thursday.

Atwood Lobster was acquired by Mazzetta Co., one of the United States’ largest seafood importers, in May 2011.

“The Atwood family had been involved in Maine Lobster for nearly a century, and when we purchased the company we committed to work to make its second century even stronger,” said Mazzetta Executive VP Jordan Mazzetta. “This is an exciting venture for Maine lobster and for our entire SEAMAZZ family of premium branded products.”
