Clackamas, Oregon, U.S.A.-based Dulcich – the parent company of Pacific Seafood Group – won all of a USD 1.38 million (EUR 1.3 million) contract from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to supply the federal government with wild-caught frozen salmon fillets.

The USDA paid between USD 12.26 (EUR 11.77) and USD 13.11 (EUR 12.58) per pound for the contract comprising 108,000 pounds of salmon for domestic food distribution programs.

Though the agency originally said it would also award contracts for canned pink salmon, it did not end up awarding contracts for the products due to Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) “price considerations.” FNS oversees the Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) nutrition program, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and school meals around the country.

The USDA originally asked for bids on 168,800 cases of canned pink salmon along with the frozen salmon fillets.

The agency said it will not consider any additional or further offers under that bid notice.

“[USDA] extends our appreciation to all bidders for showing an interest in supplying agricultural commodities for domestic programs,” USDA said.
