Grieg Seafood Receives Government Funding

Grieg Seafood Hjaltland will receive grants from the European Fisheries Fund and the Shetland Islands Council that will help the company streamline its primary processing automation.

Grieg Seafood Hjaltland is the Shetlands' largest farmed salmon company. Its processing arm, Lerwick Fish Traders, will receive GBP 420,000 (USD 598,672; EUR 452,435) from the EFF and GBP 25,000 (USD 35,635; EUR 26,930) from the Shetland Islands Council. The grants will be allocated to a new automated Baader processing line.

"We are delighted to have been awarded this money that will make a significant contribution to the efficiency of our processing operation. It will also mean that we will be able to offer a more flexible, consumer-tailored service to our customers, strengthening Hjaltland's position as the leading producer of high quality sustainable salmon from Shetland," said Michael Stark, Grieg Seafood Hjaltland's managing director.

Grieg Seafood Hjaltland is the largest private sector employer in the Shetlands, supporting between 140 and 170 jobs.
