Ireland’s seafood sector is poised for major expansion in the Chinese market following a trial deal struck yesterday in Cork.
Union Hall-based Glenmar Shellfish will ship 80 metric tons of Irish produce to five new Chinese buyers visiting West Cork as part of a week-long Bord Bia trade mission.
Total exports of Irish seafood to China in 2012 were valued at almost EUR 10 million (USD 13.5 million). The latest trends up to the middle of 2013 show exports 45 percent higher at EUR 9.5 million (USD 12.9 million) on the corresponding period in 2012.
