Mussel Industry Council hires first director

The Mussel Industry Council on Tuesday announced it appointed Peter Burdon as its first executive director.

Burdon has extensive experience in business management, financial analysis and marketing. Previously, he served as the executive director of the Exterior Insulation Finish Systems Council of Canada and as CEO of the Ontario Concrete Products Association.

"Peter brings to the Council a breadth of experience with proven capabilities in strategic marketing and business planning," said Brain Fortune, council president. "His background and entrepreneurial approach to business will be critical in meeting the various needs of our members and marketing program."

The Mussel Industry Council was formed earlier this year and consists of mussel growers and processors from Atlantic Canada and Quebec, as well as various industry associations. Its primary goal is to oversee a marketing program designed to increase demand for mussels across North America.
