National Fisheries Institute hires new government affairs director

The United States’ National Fisheries Institute (NFI) hired Kedrin Simms Brachman as director of government relations. Simms Brachman previously held positions on Capitol Hill, in the executive branch, and at trade associations.

“Kedrin is about as well-rounded as they come in Washington,” said NFI president John Connelly. “With experience ranging from legislative work in the House to congressional affairs work in an agency to understanding how associations create value for members, Kedrin is well-equipped to be a champion for the seafood community.”

Simms Brachman comes to NFI from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), where she played a pivotal role in the successful passage of legislation and amendments. Her executive branch work helped her develop and maintain strong bipartisan relationships. On Capitol Hill, she worked for three different offices in the House of Representatives.

“Kedrin’s knowledge of policy issues in Washington translates into action, advocacy and strategy,” said Robert DeHaan, VP-government affairs for NFI. “We’re eager to see the impact Kedrin’s political focus will have as an advocate for the seafood community.”

In between government and association work, Simms Brachman consulted for congressional candidates, of whom nine out of 10 were successfully elected to Congress.

Fluent in French, Simms Brachman is a graduate of Quebec’s Bishop’s University. “I’m excited to be joining the great NFI team to put my political and legislative experience to work to ensure the seafood community and our members always have a strong voice on Capitol Hill,” she said.
