The Norwegian Seafood Council has partnered with India seafood company Pescafresh as a means to explore the rate and nature of salmon consumption in India.
After conducting ample amounts of research on the Indian seafood market and following various attempts to penetrate said market as a means to push salmon into the mainstream food category, the Norwegian Government has decided to join forces with Pescafresh, one of the largest sellers of fresh, chilled salmon in India. Together, Pescafresh and the Norwegian Seafood Council will carry out an in-depth analysis on salmon consumption patterns among Indian consumers, shedding light on India’s salmon market for foreign companies as well as domestic mainstays.
“Pescafresh has been expanding the horizon of seafood choices to the Indian consumers. Fish such as Atlantic Salmon from Norway have been one of our key products that seafood enthusiasts have loved. We are excited by this association with the Norwegian Seafood Council (NSC) and this partnership is a testimony of our leadership in the fresh Indian seafood industry,” said Sangram Sawant, Founder and CEO of Pescafresh.
“This is a landmark engagement model for foreign countries to penetrate the Indian Market, an unconventional approach which typically disrupts the way market research is conducted. The approach of engaging with real world companies who work on a direct basis with the consumer will surely mark a pioneering effort by Pescafresh and Norway. We are excited at Pescafresh to take this opportunity forward,” Sawant added.
Exports for Norway in July 2015 were valued as NOK 5.7 billion (USD .68 billion; EUR .61 billion), a 15 percent increase compared to July 2014. What’s more, salmon exports were worth NOK 3.8 billion (USD .45 billion; EUR .41 billion) in July 2015, a 9 percent bump up from July 2014. France, Poland and the UK were the biggest importers of Norwegian salmon for that month.
