Ocean Beauty opens new facility in Renton, Washington

Ocean Beauty Seafoods has completed its expansion into a larger facility in Renton, Washington, outside of Seattle.

The company has moved its Seattle distribution and hot-smoked salmon manufacturing divisions into the new 78,000-square-foot facility, which has been upgraded with state-of-the-art processing technology, including 10K skin-packing manufacturing capability for fresh and  frozen fish and smoked salmon. The new location also includes additional office space, and a secure refrigerated loading dock with 11 bay doors.

Ocean Beauty’s corporate headquarters will remain at the Ewing Street location in Seattle, the company said in a press release.

“We could have remodeled the Ewing Street building, but if we did that we’d still be in a location that is very difficult to move trucks in and out of,” Ocean Beauty Vice President of Marketing Tom Sunderland said. “The location on the Lake Washington Ship Canal is a scenic and historic location, and we’ve been here since 1978, but it’s become a major undertaking just to get on the freeway from here.”

Traffic levels in South Lake Union area has resulted in increased transit time, jeopardizing the company’s quality of service, Sunderland said. In addition, due to the growth of the business, the Ewing Street building “could no longer support continued growth,” Sunderland said.

Ocean Beauty Seafoods LLC operates six shoreside plants in Alaska, a value-added processing operation in Washington state, seven distribution facilities in the western U.S., and sales offices in Seattle and Tokyo, Japan.
