Pacific Shrimp earns BRC certification

After completing a USD 2 million upgrade in an effort to increase its presence in the European market, Pacific Seafood Group’s Pacific Shrimp processing plant in Newport, Ore., has earned British Retail Consortium (BRC) certification.

The company is now the only coldwater shrimp processing facility in the United States to be certified by the BRC. The certification assures customers that cooked-and-peeled shrimp processed at Pacific Shrimp is of the highest standards of food safety and hygiene, including separation of raw and cooked products and positive airflow to prevent airborne pathogens.

“This certification will provide greater opportunities for our fishermen, team members and local communities by attracting new national and international markets, thereby fulfilling our commitment to find greater opportunities for Oregon-based sustainable species,” said Frank Dulcich, owner and CEO of Pacific Seafood.

In addition to the BRC certification, Oregon pink shrimp earned Marine Stewardship Council certification in 2007.
