8. Vietnam wants pangasius to follow chicken. The Vietnamese pangasius industry is on the rise and is undergoing a change to up its image in international markets. In his December commentary, Mike Urch looked at how more consolidation is taking place within Vietnam, leading to more investment in pangasius operations and an increased focused on strategy and marketing techniques. He notes that not all investors are involved solely in the seafood industry. In fact, companies that work with value-added products are beginning to look at the whitefish alternative as well. The possibilities with pangasius are endless, wrote Urch, but the idea to concentrate on these products is still in its infancy.
