Mowi appoints sustainability chief as part of management shuffle

Bergen, Norway-headquartered Mowi ASA has promoted Catarina Martins to the position of chief sustainability officer (CSO) as part of the salmon company’s strategy to strengthen itself in the area of sustainability.

“Mowi is a company that is living and producing in close cooperation with nature, and our success depends on sustainable and environmentally responsible interactions with the natural environment,” the company said in a statement. “A vital part of the CSO's responsibility is to strengthen and implement Mowi's sustainability strategy.”

For the past five years, Martins has fulfilled the role of group manager of environment and sustainability at Mowi. She has a master’s degree in marine biology from Lisbon University in Portugal, a doctorate in animal sciences from Wageningen University in the Netherlands and an MBA in global seafood from the Norwegian School of Economics. Additionally, she has supplementary education in corporate sustainability and other relevant education from Harvard University in the United States. 

Mowi has also announced that in order to make the group management team more effective, the team members will primarily be located at its Bergen headquarters. Consequently, Glenn Flanders who resides in the United States comes out of the team. Flanders will continue in his current role and going forward he will spend even more time on investor relations activities in the Americas and Asia.

Mowi's group management team, effective 8 April, is as follows: CEO, Alf-Helge Aarskog; CFO, Ivan Vindheim; COO Farming, Per-Roar Gjerde; COO, sales and marketing, Ola Brattvoll; COO, fish feed, Ben Hadfield; Chief Technology Officer and head of global R&D, Øyvind Oaland; Global Director HR, Anne Lorgen Riise; and CSO, Catarina Martins.
