Norway Minister of Fisheries Per Sandberg resigns

Norway’s Minister of Fisheries Per Sandberg resigned on 13 August after coming under criticism for a vacation he took in Iran.

Sandberg also announced that he has resigned as the deputy chairman of FrP, or the Norwegian Progress Party. The resignations come after intense scrutiny regarding a trip he took to Iran with his Norwegian-Iranian girlfriend Bahareh Letnes, during which he took his government phone.

According to Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten, Norway Prime Minister Erna Solberg called his resignation “a right decision.”

"He has also not revealed the necessary discretion regarding the handling of security," said Solberg, who added that he didn’t follow the proper safety advice or security routines during his trip. Solberg went on to request the ministries, in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and Emergency Affairs, to review security routines for foreign travel and contact.

Sandberg’s replacement, according to the paper, is Harald Tom Nesvik, another member of the Norwegian Progress Party and an executive at Solvtrans.
