Seattle-based sushi chain abruptly shuts its doors

Earlier this month, Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.-based Blue C Sushi closed all seven of its locations due to financial problems, The Seattle Times reported.

The company emailed its employees a memo about the closure on 6 January. The chain operated five locations in Washington, and two in California. SeafoodSource could not reach executives with Blue C Sushi for comment on the closure.

Madison Holdings, the sushi chain’s parent company, fell behind on taxes in the past, according to financial records filed with the King County Superior Court and the state Department of Revenue. It owned nearly USD 200,000 (EUR 177,000) in back taxes in 2016, according to The Seattle Times.

Blue C Sushi told employees to visit designated Starbucks to pick up their final paychecks and then deposit them promptly.

The chain was one of the first to popularize the conveyor-belt sushi concept in the United States. It also boasted that its proprietary digital tracking technology “allows us to monitor each and every item for freshness, while alerting our chefs when a particular menu item is in high demand, allowing them to react quickly to the needs of our guests,” Blue C Sushi said on its website.
