The U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) has hiked the antidumping duty imposed on pangasius products from Vietnam to rates much higher than in its preliminary review.
According to the DOC’s final conclusion of the 14th period of review (POR14) for the period from 1 August, 2016 to 31 July, 2017, the duty for Hung Vuong Group will be USD 3.87 (EUR 3.47) per kilogram, much higher than the zeroed-out rate it announced in its preliminary review released in September 2018, Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) said in a statement Friday.
The duty for NTSF Seafood is at USD 1.37 (EUR 1.23) per kilogram, the same rate as was set in the preliminary review.
The taxes for four other pangasius exporters including C.P Vietnam, CL-FISH, Green Farms Seafood and Vinh Quang Corp. are kept at USD 1.37 (EUR 1.23) per kilogram, up USD 0.96 (EUR 0.86) per kilogram from the preliminary results.
The duty for other Vietnamese exporters not examined as mandatory or voluntary respondents in the review will be kept at 2.39 USD (EUR 2.14) per kilogram, same as in the preliminary results.
The U.S. dropped down to become the third-biggest importer of Vietnamese pangasius, after China and the European Union, in the period. The export value from this market in Q1 was USD 71.16 million (EUR 63.24 million), down 5 percent year-on-year. The export value from the U.S. fell 22.8 percent and 44.4 percent year-on-year in February and March, respectively.
Pangasius exports to the U.S. are likely to drop further in the second quarter, following the latest move by DOC, VASEP said.
