Statistics show that, although farmers in Indonesia continue to struggle with the consequences of white feces syndrome, Indonesian shrimp exports performed well in the first half of 2018.
The outlook for the next couple of months is also quite good. Contrary to countries like India and Vietnam, farmers in Indonesia have not been hesitant to stock their ponds after the Eid al-Fitr holidays, which ended on 22 June. ShrimpTails sources report that corporate farms continued to grow shrimp during the holidays, and the majority of independent small- and medium-sized farmers have stocked their ponds at normal densities in the beginning of July. With grow-out periods of at least 70 days, harvests of smaller-sized pacific white shrimp (l. Vannamei) started in mid-September and will continue until mid-October. Towards the end of October and early November, most farmers will stock another crop, which they will then harvest in January and February 2019, just before the start of the monsoon season.
