AquaChile receives ASC and BAP certification for three salmon centers

AquaChile has received an Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) and Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification for three of its salmon farm centers as it looks to continue its campaign to certify more of its salmon operations.

According to a press statement from the company, the company has received certification for its Quilque Sur (Calbuco), Serapio (Cochamò) and Chauque (Quemchi) centers in the south of Chile.

The company said that it is working to meet the strictest market requirements, especially for the entry of its products into the United States and Europe. The company said the certifications demonstrate greater sustainability and responsibility in its activities.

“We adhere to all practices or certification that make our activities more sustainable. In this sense the ASC is a standard that guarantees good practices in our operations considering environmental, sanitary, labor, and social factors. This certification is promoted by the Global Salmon Initiative, an international association of which AquaChile is a partner and founder,” AquaChile General Manager Agustin Ugalde said.

The firm already received BAP certification for 12 of its farms during January of this year. This includes farms in seven municipalities of Southern Chile where it produces Atlantic salmon and three municipalities where coho salmon is produced.
