Norway-based aquaculture operation Lødingen Fisk has selected Pure Salmon Technology as the supplier for a new smolt facility, the latter company has announced.

Pure Salmon Technology develops and supplies recirculating aquaculture systems and has already delivered smolt facilities to salmon farmers such as Mowi, SalMar, and Lerøy. According to Pure Salmon, Lødingen Fisk made several visits to its reference sites before selecting the company based on its past deliveries and expertise.

“We look forward to collaborating with Pure Salmon Technology on this project,” Lødingen Fisk Managing Director Truls Olsen said. “Their expertise, technology, and comprehensive approach give us confidence in an efficient project execution. We are convinced this will ensure high quality for our upcoming smolt facility.”

Lødingen Fisk is building the new smolt facility at an existing production location in Vestbygda, Nordland, Norway, Pure Salmon Technology said.

“The collaboration has focused on flexibility and the effective use of local resources such as power, water, and land,” the company said. “We want the result of this to meet all the needs we see today but also being prepared for growth in the future.”

According to Pure Salmon Technology, Lødingen Fisk considered a number of solutions for a new smolt facility, including flow-through, recirculating, and re-use systems but, ultimately, settled on Pure Salmon’s facility.

"Their decision to choose us confirms their trust in our competence, technology, and ability to deliver tailored solutions,” Pure Salmon Technology Key Client Director Preben Strand said. “We look forward to supporting the project through all phases, from planning to completion, as well as providing operational support in the production phase.”

The facility is the second Pure Salmon Technology is building for the ownership group that owns Lødingen Fisk – which includes ownership from Egil Kristoffersen and Sønner AS, Salaks, Eidsfjord Sjøfarm, and Øyfisk AS.

Pure Salmon Technology acquired key intellectual property from Billund Aquaculture in September 2024 as part of a global expansion strategy. It also started a new venture with 8f Asset Management in collaboration with Ecofisk AS to develop a 7,000-metric-ton post-smolt facility in Espevik, Rogaland, Norway.
