Cite Marine, a subsidiary of Nissui Corporation, has acquired a new processing facility in Pontivy, France from Trétour de Paris and is planning to expand another facility Switzerland as it sees high demand for its products.

According to a press release from Nissui, Cite Marine acquired the facility on 21 July, and will soon begin renovating it in order to produce frozen foods such as vegetable mini patties and fried seafood by some time in 2026. The exact terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Nissui said Cite Marine has gained an “overwhelming” share of the chilled fried white fish section in France, and has been steadily leveraging its strengths and production capacity to expand its market with new frozen foods like vegetable products and seafood tapas. That continued success is the reason the company needed to acquire additional manufacturing, it said.

“Demand for these convenient, ready-to-eat product categories has been steadily expanding, putting strain on production capacity,” Nissui said. “To alleviate this, the company will expand its frozen and chilled food manufacturing capacity by acquiring the Pontivy factory.”

Nissui said that Cite Marine will also be expanding the facility at its Keranna factory in Plumerine, Switzerland, which it acquired in 2022. Nissui announced its plan to add capacity at the Keranna facility in 2024, with that plan to take place by 2025. Nissui said the Keranna facility will complete its expansion by the first half of 2026 to increase productivity and operational efficiency.

“By complementing its existing factories with these new investments, the company will optimize its chilled and frozen production systems and build a flexible production system that can meet consumer demand,” Nissui said.

Cite Marine has grown significantly since Nissui acquired the company in 2011. The company added three processing facilities with the purchase of Cap Ocean in 2016, Halieutis Fish and Co. in 2017, and Miti, also in 2017. More recently, the company acquired a tapas factory in France from Guyader Traiteur Frais in June 2024.

Nissui also recently announced it is building a new facility in Japan, as the company works toward on its “Good Foods 2030” plan. The company recently completed Stage 1 of the plan and has moved into phase 2, which it calls “Good Foods Recipe 2." It is designed around increasing supply chain resilience.

Nissui operates over 20 seafood industry subsidiaries, including Gorton's, UniSea, King and Prince, F.W. Bryce, TaiMei, Nigico, Nordic Seafood, Mrs. Fridays, Sealord, TNFC, YTC, Delmar, Emdepes, Five Star, and Cite Marine.
