Scotland is increasing its presence at the 29th annual Seafood Expo Global/Seafood Processing Global, the world’s largest seafood trade event, taking place in Barcelona, Spain next week.

Seafood from Scotland will bring 19 Scottish producers to the annual event – including two new exhibitors – representing every part of the seafood chain. Seafood from Scotland’s entourage will include chef Steve Walpole, who will provide a variety of dishes from the Scottish Seafood Bar. In addition to the companies at the Scotland Pavilion, there will be 11 Scottish companies exhibiting independently.

“As the largest edition of SEG in its 29 years, we are anticipating another year full of high-level interest in Scottish seafood, and we will be working hard to turn that interest into sales,” Seafood from Scotland Head of Trade Marketing Natalie Bell said in a statement. “We will be focusing on promoting Scotland’s premium seafood, including our highly sought-after shellfish, salmon, white fish, and pelagic species to both existing and new contacts. SEG is a prime opportunity to showcase the wide array of species available from our coastline to new faces and to finally reconnect with old friends.”

Taking place from 25 to 27 April, 2023, this year’s Seafood Expo Global will be the largest-ever iteration of the annual event, with more than 2,000 companies exhibiting, 776 of which will be exhibiting for the first time. The trade show will sprawl over 49,299 square meters, a 24-percent increase over last year’s show.

The event will have a strong international presence; 87 seafood-producing countries will be represented at the three-day event, and there will be 85 international experts participating in the 20 educational sessions, according to event organizer Diversified Communications. “The event presents the industry with a valuable platform to conduct business on a global,” Diversified Communications President Liz Plizga said earlier this month. “For three days, we will once again bring together industry buyers and suppliers from all corners of the world to build business relationships, find new products, equipment and service solutions, explore current trends, and engage in discussions about the immediate and future challenges for the seafood industry.”
