35-year seafood veteran, with ties to Ocean Beauty, nabs top job with MSC

Eric Critchlow has been named as the new U.S. Program Director for the Marine Stewardship Council, the organization announced on 19 August.

Critchlow, who once served as vice president of Lusamerica Foods and has spent 35 years in the seafood industry, will be based in MSC’s U.S. headquarters in Seattle, Washington. In his role, Critchlow will spearhead the certification body’s U.S. program as well as its commercial, fisheries and communications teams.

Moreover, Critchlow will work diligently to establish and deepen MSC’s relationships with industry partners.

“I am delighted to welcome Eric to the MSC as U.S. Program Director,” said Brian Perkins, Regional Director Americas for MSC. “Eric has a unique blend of skills and experience that will enable him to bring all stakeholders together towards a common goal of preserving our fishery resources for the future.”

“I am thrilled to be joining the MSC at a very important time in the organization’s history,” added Critchlow in a prepared statement. “Given consumer consciousness and stewardship with their food purchasing habits and their desire for sustainable seafood, it’s imperative in my role to keep building alliances with our key partners in order to deliver on our mission and expand the MSC’s presence in the Americas and increase availability of MSC certified sustainable seafood across the region.”

Critchlow started in the commercial fishing industry as a troll salmon buyer and general production worker, eventually working with Ocean Beauty (Portland Fish) and North Pacific Seafoods as Vice President (VP) of Sales. He has been with MSC since June 2016. In his position, he will report to Perkins.
