The At-Sea Processors Association (APA) on Monday announced it will file a Notice of Objection to the certification determination contained in a final report on the Russia Sea of Okjotsk (SOO) pollock fishery.
“The objection will cover many of the concerns about procedural matters and scoring decisions in the SOO fishery assessment that were raised previously by APA in public comment on the draft certification determination report,” said APA, which represents U.S. pollock producers.
Under the Marine Stewardship Council objection procedure, an independent adjudicator reviews objections. If the objection is accepted, the objection is published on the MSC website and the objections process commences.
“APA respects that process, so we will not be distributing a copy of the objection nor discussing details of what is contained in the objection,” said APA.
In late January, Jim Gilmore, APA's director of public affairs, told SeafoodSource it was “premature to say that the certification determination will stand.”
