The U.S. Food and Drug Administration last week issued recalls for products from two seafood companies.
On 19 November, Service Smoked Fish Corp., of Brooklyn, N.Y., recalled specific "use-by" dates of 3 December 2009 through 19 December 2009 of Brooklyn's Best-branded Smoked Nova Salmon due to potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
The salmon product was distributed in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Baltimore, Los Angeles and Portland, Ore.
On 17 November, Superior Food of Grand Rapids, Mich., recalled its Lemon Pepper Marinated Catfish because it may contain undeclared soy and FD&C Yellow No. 5. The company also recalled Cajun Style Marinated Catfish because it may contain soy and milk products not declared on the label.
The products were distributed to retail stores in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio.
The FDA investigation indicated the problem was caused by a temporary breakdown in Superior's production process due to supplier changes.
Consumers are urged to return both the Superior Food and Service Smoked Fish Corp. products to the locations they were purchased for a refund.
No illnesses have been reported.
