Loch Duart Artisan Smokehouse on Thursday issued a statement regarding the recall of its Oak Roasted Flaky Smoked Salmon due to Listeria monocytogenes.
The company said the recall is a “precautionary measure,” after extensive testing found a “low incidence of listeriamonocytogenes.” The batches were produced in the same period as previous batches of cold smoked product that was recalled in August and September.
“It is important to note that all present, previous and historical tests on the Loch Duart fresh salmon entering the smokehouse have found to be clear,” the company said.
“Our smokehouse does not take this matter lightly and is highly motivated to resolve this issue. Whist undertaking a rigorous investigation within our own organization, we have also contracted an external specialist to advise us in eradicating a problem that has never occurred in the history of the smokehouse. We will do so and hope that our customers will bear with us while we institute the recommendations of the external and internal reports.”
The company said the source of the issue if most likely a blast chiller, but that all other equipment has been and continues to be fully investigated.
“The blast chiller concerned has been isolated from production. We will make sure that this cannot happen again,” said Loch Duart.
The company added this is the first incident of this nature.
