Soline Trading is recalling Sea Horse brand easy peel shrimp due to undeclared sulphites, which are considered an allergen.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said in a release that the product recall was triggered by agency food test results. There have been no reactions associated with consumption of the product so far; however, the agency said the presence of sulphites could put those allergic to the ingredients at risk.
The products impacted are 908-gram packages of Sea Horse branded easy peel shrimp, with a best before date of 17 February 2026.
Soline Trading, based in Saint-Laurent, Quebec, Canada, distributed the products in Quebec. The CFIA said it is verifying that industries are removing the recalled products from the marketplace. The agency also said it is conducting a food safety investigation, which may lead to the recall of other products.
Soline Trading has had to recall shrimp for the presence of sulphites in the past. In 2021, the company recalled its Thai Elephant branded black tiger shrimp for the same reason.
