Brooklyn, New York, U.S.A.-based seafood brand Acme Smoked Fish is rolling out its Smoked Salmon Candy product nationwide, as well as two new dips, in Whole Foods Market stores ahead of the end-of-year holiday season.

The candy is is inspired by candied smoked salmon that is popular in the U.S. Pacific Northwest. According to Acme Senior Marketing Manager Ellen Lee-Allen, the company has developed its own interpretation of the concept.

“We are always innovating and looking forward to introducing delicious products our consumers will love. We craft this salmon candy from sustainably sourced salmon; it is hand-cut, cured in a molasses and brown sugar brine, and slowly smoked over natural hardwoods,” she said.

The product comes in 3-ounce packages available at select Whole Foods Market stores nationwide.

Simultaneously, the supplier is launching two dips: Wild-Caught Smoked Whitefish Spread and Smoked Salmon Dip, the latter of which includes smoked Atlantic salmon blended with a mix of herbs, spices, and mayonnaise. Both dips are available in 7-ounce packages at Whole Foods stores nationwide.

This dip release comes shortly after Acme also released a Sweet Heat Smoked Salmon Dip featuring Mike’s Hot Honey, which is also based in Brooklyn.

All of Acme’s new fall products align with what Acme’s customers are looking for during the holiday season, Lee-Allen said.

“The holiday season is one of our busiest seasons. People love smoked salmon, as it's a taste indulgence that is also nutritious, and our new Sweet Heat Smoked Salmon Dip is on trend with people's desire for a sweet yet spicy flavor combination,” she said.

Besides targeting the holiday season, Acme’s new products also target its consumer demographic, which ranges from young professionals to more mature consumers in their mid-40s to 50s, who enjoy seafood and new taste experiences, Lee-Allen said

“[Our consumers] have busy schedules and are often strapped for time. Smoked fish products offer a delicious and convenient meal experience solution as our smoked fish is ready-to-eat, nutritious, and delicious,” Lee-Allen said.

The products feature Acme’s refreshed product packaging, which brings a “modern, approachable look together with four generations of fish-smoking legacy,” Acme said. A new smoke scale on the packaging also guides customers on whether each product has light, medium, or heavy smoke.

Elsewhere, Acme Smoked Fish Foundation recently announced the third year of its Seafood Industry Climate Awards, which support early-stage efforts to reduce the industry’s carbon footprint.

Three recipients will each receive a USD 70,000 (EUR 63,000) grant to support projects that will address carbon emissions and increase diversity within the seafood industry, the company said in a press release.

Acme’s foundation hosted a panel and reception on 25 September to promote the awards and kick off the application process during New York Climate Week.

“We are thrilled to launch the next round of the SICA Awards during Climate Week and build upon two wonderful years of our program supporting groundbreaking work in our industry,” Acme Chief People and Sustainability Officer Rob Snyder said. “With support from Builders Initiative, our first dedicated award thanks to TD Bank, and growing support from funders around the country, together, we can position the seafood industry to be a leader in the climate movement.”
