Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based Channel Fish Processing, which holds a number of government contracts to supply pollock, cod, and haddock, has launched a skin pack production line that expands its processing capabilities for the retail market.

"Channel Fish is continuously looking for ways to innovate and better serve our customers," Channel Fish President Tom Zaffiro said. “Our investment in skin pack technology demonstrates our commitment to providing solutions that enhance product quality and customer convenience. With skin packing, retailers can now offer visually appealing, neatly packaged seafood that is shelf-ready upon arrival. This method streamlines the stocking process and ensures customers receive a premium product.”

Skin packs extend the shelf life of seafood by vacuum-sealing fish within a breathable film which preserves freshness and moisture. The method is favored by retailers, Channel Fish said, because it makes for attractive displays where customers can easily see and select their preferred products.

Channel Fish said it already provides hand-crafted fish filleting, automated filleting and portioning, block cutting, breading and batter coating applications, automated retail boxing, and bulk packaging services.

With the new move, the company is now adding skin pack packaging to all its core fresh fish species, including cod, flounder, haddock, halibut, ocean perch, pollock, and salmon, as well as newly sourced species such as catfish, tilapia, scallops, and value-added items.
