U.S. retailers and restaurants are celebrating April Fool’s Day this year with seafood-related prank promotions.

Lakewood, Colorado, U.S.A.-based Natural Grocers, which operates nearly 170 natural and organic stores, unveiled four new fake flavors in its private-label canned spritzer line: Clam Water, Roasted Chicken Water, Raw Onion Water, and Mac and Cheese Fizz Water.

“These 100 percent organic, bubbly concoctions are made with pure, simple ingredients – no artificial flavors, additives, preservatives, and synthetic colors. [It’s] perfect for those craving something truly unique; these new spritzers promise to bring comfort and joy with every sip,” the company said in a 1 April press release.

Meanwhile, Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based restaurant Pauli’s, which is known for its lobster rolls and creative promotions, said it will debut the Boston Lobster Roll Lip Gloss this spring.

“'Made' with organic waxes, oils, and pigments, the gloss features a “proprietary blend with an unusual twist: 100 percent real knuckle and claw lobster meat, clarified butter, and a hint of Boston Harbor water, giving wearers a subtle, sea-salted finish,” Pauli’s said.

"We know people love lobster rolls, but with prices going up, we wanted to offer fans a new way to savor the flavor all day long for next to nothing,” Pauli’s Head of Product Development Vic Scherzo said. "Now, you can literally have the taste of a lobster roll on your lips anytime you want."

Pauli’s gained attention last summer for creating the "Lobstitution," the largest lobster roll in New England, and said it has become a go-to destination for tourists and locals who seek indulgent, over-the-top sandwiches.

In the past, seafood suppliers such as Young’s, Acme Smoked Fish, and Bristol Seafood have played into the spirit of April Fool’s Day, with promotional pranks.
