Legal Sea Foods, which operates 32 upscale casual seafood restaurants on the East Coast, was named the most family-friendly restaurant by Parents magazine last week.
The magazine polled more than 50 of the largest full-service or buffet-style chains to find out what they offer children.
"Don't be surprised if your little one opts for something more adventurous," says Parents. "At most locations, wood-grilled fish is more popular than any of the 10 other kids' entrees, including the whimsical fish-shaped cheese ravioli."
"Some children want what their parents are having, and it makes them feel grown up," Legal CEO Roger Berkowitz told the magazine.
The Boston-based chain eliminated trans fat five years ago, tests all tuna and swordfish for methylmercury and cooks non-seafood items on a separate grill to accommodate kids with shellfish allergies. It also cut back on sodium recently - kids' French fries aren't salted and salads come with a low-sodium raspberry vinaigrette.
Chili's Bar & Grill, P.F. Chang's China Bistro and Claim Jumper also made Parents' top 10 list of the most family-friendly restaurants.
Parents is owned by Meredith Corp. of Des Moines, Iowa, which publishes 14 magazines with a combined circulation of nearly 30 million, including Family Circus, Better Homes and Gardens, Fitness, More and American Baby.
