Looking for Copper River salmon?

The first-ever Copper River Salmon Locator Facebook application has been launched to help consumers find the prized fish at a local restaurant or retail outlet.

Consumers simply log on to www.findcopperriver.org and click “FIND IT” to input their location or “TAG IT” to share the name and address a restaurant or retail outlet that carries Copper River salmon. The app also helps Alaska fishermen connect with where their product is being sold.

The tagline on the Copper River Salmon Facebook page reads, “Find it. Tag it. Love it. Help build the Copper River salmon community so others can love it too.” Additionally, a network of food bloggers in 15 key markets will be “finding” and “tagging” Copper River Salmon.

The app will be officially launched to the trade just prior to the International Boston Seafood Show next month. The app will be introduced to consumers at the start of the 2012 season.

The Copper River salmon fishery, which opens in mid-May, marks the unofficial start of Alaska’s summer salmon season. The fishery’s production forecast was released last month.
