Trident reformulates surimi-seafood products

Trident Seafoods announced last week that it reformulated its Louis Kemp Crab and Lobster Delights surimi-seafood products to reduce the level of sodium to 340 milligrams.

The new formula also allows the Seattle company to use the “healthy” label on its Louis Kemp products, as it now meets the FDA’s requirement for a “healthy” claim, providing 6 grams of protein with less than 1 gram of fat per serving and only 5 grams of cholesterol.

“It’s clear that consumers have not given up their intentions to eat healthy, even when budgets are tight,” said Joe Bundrant, Trident’s executive VP.

“We hear them loud and clear, and we are reformulating more of our popular value-added products to meet that demand,” he said. “Our Louis Kemp flake-style Crab Delights is just one example of Trident’s commitment to maintain our leadership, satisfy our customers and stay out front of the competition.”

In addition to the new formula, Trident has teamed up with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation to offer its Crab Delights in distinctive pink packaging celebrating a commitment to education and research about causes, treatment and the search for a cure.
