BioMar announces development of specialty RAS aquafeeds

BioMar, a supplier of high-performance feed to the global aquaculture industry based in Brande, Denmark, is working on developing specialty feeds for land-based aquaculture facilities.

The company said in a 4 October press release it had assembled all of its specialists in recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) to develop “the next generation of feed solutions for RAS.”

“RAS for land-based salmon farming is an emerging segment within the aquaculture industry, and there is still a potential to be realized,” BioMar CEO Carlos Diaz said. “The highly advanced technologies being used require highly advanced feed solutions and farming practices to enable a strong performance.”

BioMar’s team working on the project were selected “based upon local as well as global results within RAS,” the company said.

“They are all recognized for their expertise have 15 to 25 years of experience working within aquaculture as product developers and trusted advisors for customers across the globe,” the company said.

“We are building upon a very strong foundation being a leader within the RAS segment for many years, but the future requires that we can bring even more specialized products to the market, supported across geographies,” it said.

The company’s strategic objective with the move is to build the company’s reputation as “an innovator within efficient and sustainable global aquaculture,” it said. In particular, BioMar will seek to develop aquafeeds that improve the efficiency and operational stability of RAS operations.

“We will very soon present new products to the market,” Diaz said. “In order to create a sustainable food future, we need together as an industry to enable a doubling of our production capacity without increasing pressure on the environment, wild fish, and agriculture. That is a challenge we need to address together. We all have a responsibility for adding resources and increasing collaboration.”
