Norwegian experts are sharing their aquaculture know-how with counterparts in Vietnam as part of relationship-building efforts between the two countries’ governments.
The exchange took place last week as part of the “Innovation Norway” event in Vietnam, as part of a partnership between Vietnam’s Agriculture Ministry and the Norwegian embassy.
At a seminar on the blue ocean economy in the central province of Khanh Hoa on 9 October, attended by more than 150 participants, leaders from 12 Norwegian organizations and companies shared their experiences of advanced technologies and solutions for sustainable development of the Norwegian salmon-farming sector. The focus of the seminar was on sustainable technology for industrial marine aquaculture and processing.
As Vietnam is planning to develop its industrial-scale marine aquaculture in a sustainable manner, the seminar was intended to give Vietnamese farmers assistance in sustainably developing its marine aquaculture industry. As part of the program, participants had a visit to demonstration farms in Khanh Hoa, which are used for skill training for farm workers and managers and for academic education.
“This event really shows what Norway can offer: technology, knowledge, competence and willingness,” Ambassador Grete Løchen said in a statement.
The exchange is a good example of the positive bilateral relationship that has existed between Vietnam and Norway for the last 50 years, Phung Duc Tien, vice minister of the Vietnamese ministry, told the seminar’s participants, adding that the seminar serves as a place for companies from both sides to explore cooperation opportunities in marine aquaculture and seafood processing.
Vietnam, with a coastline of more than 3,260 kilometers (2,026 miles) and numerous islands and bays, has set an ambitious goal of becoming one of the world’s leaders in aquaculture. The country considers Norway, along with Denmark, Japan, the United States, and Australia its major partners in developing its ocean aquaculture sector.
