Glyvrar, Faroe Islands-based Atlantic salmon farmer Bakkafrost Group harvested a total 24,900 metric tons (MT) of head-on gutted (HOG) weight fish in the third quarter of this year, with increased volumes for the period from both its Faroese and Scottish operations.
According to the company’s latest trading update, Bakkafrost’s Faroese operations harvested a total 16,800 MT of salmon in the quarter, which represented an increase of 1,900 MT from the corresponding period of 2021.The contribution from its Farming North segment amounted to 8,700 MT, while Farming West and Farming South supplied 5,700 MT and 2,500 MT, respectively. For the same three months, its Scottish farming segment achieved a harvest of 8,100 MT, up from 6,900 MT a year previously. Scotland North provided 3,000 MT and Scotland South 5,100 MT.
Also in the last quarter, Bakkafrost sold 37,800 MT of feed, a decrease of 7,200 MT year-on-year. Its fish feed business Havsbrún sourced 76,100 MT of raw materials in the three-month period.

In the first half of 2022, Bakkafrost harvested 41,200 MT of HOG salmon, with the Faroes and Scotland supplying 30,600 MT and 10,600 MT respectively. Its profit for the first six months of 2022 climbed to more than DKK 1.2 billion (USD 157.6 million, EUR 161.4 million).
The company has forecast a 2022 harvest of 103,000 MT gutted-weight salmon, with 68,000 MT coming from the Faroe Islands and 35,000 MT from Scotland.
Bakkafrost said it also anticipates an increase in its production volumes of fishmeal and fish oil compared with 2021, while Havsbrún’s sales of fish feed is expected to be 130,000 MT, depending on external sales.
