Starkist has landed a major contract to supply canned tuna for the U.S. government’s nutrition and food-assistance programs.
Reston, Virginia, U.S.A.-based Starkist won a contract to supply around USD 12.5 million (EUR 11.3 million) worth of canned light tuna, or 230,400 cases, for fiscal year 2022, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced.
Separately, the USDA is asking for bids on wild-caught Alaska pollock and walleye to supply its National School Lunch Program and other federal food and nutrition assistance programs.
The USDA is seeking nearly 1.6 million pounds of frozen Alaska pollock fillets, fish sticks, and nuggets, the agency said in its solicitation notice. It is also asking for bids on 36,000 pounds of walleye.
The winning bidders will be notified by midnight on 22 March, 2022. Deliveries must be made between April and September 2022.
So far this year, the USDA has purchased USD 15.9 million (EUR 14 million) worth of Alaska pollock, according to the Association of Genuine Alaska Pollock Producers (GAPP).
